Here is a a blog post about the charity event that Social Inkubator hosted together with Hungerprojektet.
It all started with Asuka Uesaka (Volunteer coordinator for Hungerprojektet in Lund) coming to the Tamam house and expressing a will to cooperate with Tamam and Social Incubator. She had heard about us and she was thinking that it would be great if Hungerprojektet and us could do something together. Alma Cullhaj and Christoffer Wikner (Project leaders for Social Inkubator) together with Amanda (Intern and volunteer at Hungerprojektet) and Asuka started to brainstorm about what we could do together. Hungerprojektet is an organization that works in different countries in the world by helping poor communities build up and become self-sustainable. They are changing the lives of many people all around the world and their focus in Sweden is to fundraise money so that they can support their work abroad.
In Tamam we also work to create a meaningful time for children and youth both in Sweden and abroad and work with fundraising in order to support our everyday activities. So we started by brainstorming on what they wanted to do. After many meetings they came up to the conclusion that the most reasonable would be a fundraising Brunch. In Lund the brunches are very famous and that was the reason why we thought that it might be good and fun to do a brunch.
We needed a place to do it, advertise it, and make people come there. We talked with Sydskånska Nation (a student student social club) and they were very open to the idea and accepted to have us there without paying anything. That was awesome. To advertise it we made different posters, a facebook event and also the news was on the Student Lund page, an information site directed to students in Lund.
The theme of our brunch was First advent and our brunch was going to be a Christmas brunch. Everyone was excited and nervous the big day. Where we going to be able to make enough food for everyone? Was it going to be a typical Swedish brunch if the team was: Albanians, Japanese, Iraqis, Armenians, Hungarians and only one Swede?
At 11.00 we opened the doors and we were very surprised that we had more than 80 people coming to our brunch and those were not our friends, it was just people that had seen the facebook advent. Yes, our marketing worked
It was great to see that everyone was so happy and surprised at the same time because there was enough food for everyone. Usually in the nations the food is finished before the opening time. This gave us extra points. In the end of the day we made 3500 profit. Yohuuuu…..
We finished our day happy because we organized something that people liked, and we got the chance to present our organizations to people that had not heard about it before, but we were happy for finding a new partner and maybe organize other things like this in the future. So keep your eyes open, so that next time you don’t miss our brunches
